The championship game in the corporate league was very anticipated, as we had two underdogs make it to the chip. The 5 seed Wolf & Co and the 7 seed Donuts, no Dunkin. DND got their nerves out of the way and took a 5-0 lead right off rip. Tony Calderone would also hit a 3 shortly after. Then Wolf & Co woke up after Austen Moye and Griffin Walker both had mean blocks, which gave their team some energy. Then Clay Moseman tied the game 10-10 with a nice jump shot around the 7:30 mark. The game was physical as both teams were playing tight and physical defense. Tony and Anthony Neff were getting to the line a lot. There wouldn’t be too much scoring for the rest of the half, and DND would head into half time with a 1-point lead, 17-16. Tony led all scorers with 10!
I didn’t know what to expect in the second half, but I had my popcorn ready! Griffin hit a contested 3-point shot to start the half and get his team their first lead of the game. I thought that this was where W&C would go on a run, but nope! DND’s magical run continues as Anthony gets an and 1 to take the lead right back! It was 24-19 with 15 minutes to go. Pat Heffernan, who had a quiet first half, had an impressive lay up and that got him going! He would hit two 3’s right after and took the lead 29-27. David Nguyen would tie right after, and then DND would go on a run! It was a 13-3 run to end the game and completed one of the best Cinderella runs I have ever seen! 40-32 will be the final, and DND are the champions! They should be extremely happy with what they accomplished!
