Kiss My Volcanic Ash 84  Up In Smoke Tour 82

Ash Ascends Over Smoke in Crazy Ending

Did you know that CAC is sponsored by Tommy Doyle's, with two nearby locations in Kendall Square (mere blocks away from CAC) and up in Harvard Square? Any night there's a game, a $10 pitcher and food deals (i.e. half-price appetizers) can be enjoyed by CAC basketball players. Like the greatest game show host (R.I.P. Rod) announcer ever used to say, Come on down!!!

This might be the best game that two A1 teams give each other all season.

Kiss My Volcanic Ash won an absurdly game as they scored 18 points in the last two minutes. Sean Osgood's short jumper was the game-winning shot with :05 as Up In Smoke's Billy Fratelli's 40-foot shot at the buzzer somehow banked off the glass and around the rim before cruelly swirling out (it looked dead on) as one of the greatest shots in CAC history wasn't meant to be.

Up In Smoke led 71-66 with 2:00 to go, mainly on the strength of Chris Kerr, who had another monster game. Fratelli was a distributor de forc e, while TSpin provided an early lift and then Paulie G canned 12 big points as Volcanic Ash focused all their chips on Kerr. Up In Smoke played well enough to win, but forty minutes must be played before the winner's declared.

Up In Smoke had this lead up to 7 points, but a pesky KVMA squad refused to back down. There were some missed free throws for the Up In Smoke team, but huge 3s from Dan Watson and Osgood couldn't have come at a better time as they each had their only made 3-pointers in the last two minutes. Add some Osgood lay-ups and somehow, the lone Watson 3 tied the game at 82-up with maybe about :20 left. (So much action in this one!!!)

Osgood went to fake a foul on Kerr, but his teammate Cheese went and fouled him with :15 on the clock! Normally, this brain-fart could have been deadly, but Kerr finally missed some freebies at the wrong time. Tie game still. Osgood came down, hesitated around the arc, and smartly attacked the bucket for his heroics. A 40 large for Osgood, with a notable seventeen inside field goals inside. That's doin' work for all you ballplayers out there.

Credit to every player in this game. This was a fantastic basketball game in every sense of the word. Bring the epicness back next Monday to the CAC Arena, please!!!

Undefeated No More, Step Daddies Strip The Coating

Did you know that CAC is sponsored by Tommy Doyle's, with two nearby locations in Kendall Square (mere blocks away from CAC) and up in Harvard Square? From start to finish, we saw what happens when a Wolverine, a Jumpman, and PF Flyers combine forces to put the cookies in the tin for a big 15-point win to bring the Scrotacoats out of the undefeated level as the A1 playing field is level for every team in the league now.

All four Step Daddies hit double digits in this one and the question was: what the hell was Jumpman gonna bring after surviving The Tibbs Wedding (that was so last weekend, only reference, I swear, kids). Answer: a pretty solid game. But he didn't need to be MVP Jumpman from last season because The Wolverine and Roger 'PF Flyers' Lau were on their A-games in this one along with Captain Covert.

Lau went 5-for-5 from Triple Land and he couldn't be stopped by anyone on The Scrotacoats. Just a ridiculous display. Filosa had a silently efficient game dropping the dimes and doing an admirable job on SMul on defense. Scroatcoats really struggled outside of Scott and Sundell. Kahana will tell you that his shot was off in this one even if he is The Master of The Assist.

Jumpman woke up in the 2nd half for a couple of big treys and Covert kept taking advantage of the easy ones. Still, Lau was freakish, getting 22 of his 34 in the 2nd frame. Lead never got below 10 in the last ten minutes. Game, set, Step Daddies.

A1's wide open now. Two games separates #1 from last place. Parity rules.

Wolfpack of 6 99  Doin' Work 71

Wolfpack of 6 Grows By One More Blowout Win

Did you know that CAC is sponsored by Tommy Doyle's, with two nearby locations in Kendall Square (mere blocks away from CAC) and up in Harvard Square? Doin' Work To Stay Undefeated? Not anymore, boys. The Wolfpack grabs a huge win as they dominate throughout against an undermanned (and maybe unmotivated/cocky) Doin' Work squad for a convincing 99-71 win.

This had the scrimmage feel to it as Durbrow (Celtics), Biehler (France), and Davenport (work dinner?) all missed out on this giving Doin' Work a roster of: Ruff, Yavor, Serge, and pickup Vladi (who already played). Jeff Hall dropped 20 of his 34 in the first half and no offense to Ruff, but no one on that team above can stop Jeff Hall. Hall was absurdly good out there (34-11-5) as he created opportunities for himself and others as The Wolfpack was rolling smoothly by halftime, up 17.

Sure, Serge was fantastic as he hustled in this one. And yeah, Yavor, Vladi, and Ruff all hit some threes. Too much height, too many shooters, just not enough weapons to counterbalance the growing Wolfpack. Lanfear did his usual business out there, getting lay-ups. Chanel was on fire as hit for 23, including 4-of-5 from outside. Thom got some big buckets and Mario made some sweet passes out there.

A1's wide open. Doin' Work's now 3-1, but the Wolfpack's up to 2-3. It's anyone's ballgame. The question is: who's taking it over the summer?

Ragin Bull Heroics Carry PGB to First Win in A1

Did you know that CAC is sponsored by Tommy Doyle's, with two nearby locations in Kendall Square (mere blocks away from CAC) and up in Harvard Square? Any night there's a game, a $10 pitcher and food deals (i.e. half-price appetizers) can be enjoyed by CAC basketball players. Like the greatest game show host (R.I.P. Rod) announcer ever used to say, Come on down!!

(Let's try this write-up for a third f****** time, YESSSSSSSS!)

PGB trailed most of the way throughout, but Brandon Dorey hit two 3s in the last three minutes and the GW jumper with :15 left to give PGB their first win of the season, as they KO'ed the Evil Majic Rod by the final of 78-75.

Dorey's 18-footer from the top of the key gave PGB a one-point lead with about :15, and it was only their second or third lead of the night. Evil Majic Rod led by as many as nine, early in the second half, but it all came down to J-Rod's drive that didn't go down with about :04 left, which cemented the crushing loss.

Dorey was fantastic all night, but Kurtzer and Pete Wilson really stepped up this one. Wilson only had two buckets at the break, but he really locked it in on both ends in the second half as pesky PGB just kept chipping at away a two-to-three possession lead by their opponents.

For PGB, this one was extremely significant. With a penchant for close games, this win gets them their first win and they're only two games back of first place. Sure, both teams are 1-3, but in the A1...the goal is get in the playoffs and win the last three. The field is wide open (kind of like Fabry, who had a nice bucket in this one, and Zuckerman at the Harvard Square IHop right about now).
